Highlands Latin Phoenix Valley (HLSPV) is a Classical Christian school in the north Phoenix valley that provides a 2-3 classroom experience that is beautiful and moving. HLSPV is a trademarked cottage school of Highlands Latin School and a Partner Member with the Classical Latin School Association. HLSPV's core values are: 1) Community 2) Structure: instruction in rightly ordered loves. 3) Balance HLSPV's Driving Forces are: 1) HLSPV is ecumenical, united by the Apostle's Creed. 2) HLSPV is classical, teaching virtue throughhistory and literature.3) HLSPV is a partnership between parents andteachers. HLSPV provides weekly classes conducted by teachers for specific subjects. HLSPV’s teachers provide all or most of the instructional portion of the week’s work for tutorial subjects including work to be completed at home. All work that is assigned is purposeful for learning, retention, and growth in the subject matter as well as to aid the student in their development as an independent learner over time. Parents are responsible for overseeing that work is completed as assigned including following
any teacher instructions for marking work, returning work to the teachers, and adhering to due dates. It is the parent and student’s responsibility to communicate proactively with teachers if there is difficulty with class material. HLSPV does not issue grades, but provides instruction and accountability. Parents mark work using their Teacher Guides and submit grades in their individual grade books. By high school, students often receive feedback in courses like Composition as well as Literature, Latin and Classical Studies. Some teachers may elect to grade tests themselves.

Our students learn with an emphasis on Latin, the cultures of Greece and Rome, and the connectedness of all learning through the liberal arts, mathematics, and Great Books. We believe in building a solid foundation of knowledge that can be applied meaningfully across all areas of study.
How
Do you agree with how we teach? Our students are taught in a traditional, teacher-led tutorial. The classrooms are orderly, and students are expected to attend, participate, and complete all assigned work. We aim to instill in students the delight that comes from learning and knowing worthy things.

Do you agree with why we teach? Classical education is the cultivation of wisdom and virtue through the study of the liberal arts and the Great Books. It is an education in the true, the good, and the beautiful. At HLSPV, we are committed to guiding our students to grow in knowledge, wisdom, and the love of Our Lord and more ably use their gifts in the service of others and for the glory of Christ and his Church. We believe that our mission to educate our students to the highest standards of the classical tradition is best achieved through a partnership with parents and guided by the Gospel.
